After 20 years of being off the radar, legendary LA punk/metal band Overkill has returned to once again leave a mark on the scene. Before the show actually got started we sat down with the guys of Overkill and had a little chat with them about the old days, how they broke up, and what brought them back together.

"Let’s just say it was artistic differences,” said Joe Gurule original lead singer for the band, regarding the breakup of the band. The guys had plenty of interesting stories to tell, especially how they crossed paths at the Troubadour with a young Metallica the early 80’s. Well, it was almost time for the guys to hit the stage after 20 years and only three practices. The floor was packed. People were standing on chairs and tables and just about everyone had a drink in their hand and a smile on their face from the anticipation…or perhaps the drink.

The crowd of punk rock veterans and youngins began to cheer as the 4 band members took the stage. They picked up their instruments and tore into “Head on”. The set list for the evening was as follows:
No, Urban cowboy, Slaughter, American Dream, Our War, No Holds Barred, Addict, Burn The School, Need No Reason, Lost Life, Hells Getting Hotter, Blitzkrieg Bop

As the set continued it was visible that the guys were having a lot of fun and had become much more relaxed. The boys closed the set with a cover of the Ramones, Blitzkrieg Bop. That is always a fun, classic song to listen to, and everyone loved it. After the show had finished they were bombarded with people who just wanted to say hello, take a photo with them, or ask for an autograph. Watch out for some more shows because Overkill is back and they sound better than ever!
