No matter where you are from, Friday is payday and party night. Our plans tonight were to cruise to Venice to the office of Juice magazine where they were hosting a party with live music. On the way we hooked up with 3 of the premier pool rippers around, Benji Galloway, recent 2nd place Masters division finisher - Jake Piasecki and Jimmy "The Greek". The only thing we can say when these guys are rolling a pool is........SIC

Ok, we are now back on the road to Venice after a little pool sickness. As we pulled up to 52 Market street you realize that there is no fancy corporate tower anywhere, the office of Juice magazine is a large apartment in the heart of Venice. Walking upstairs we see 52D where everyone was asked to sign the guest book that was screwed to the door.

The walls of the main room were filled with the decks that Aaron Murray at Koping Killer Skateboards put out that are limited releases as well as the covers of many on the issues that Juice has put out. About 100 guests showed up to the party that started at 6pm. The party was a filled with many of the skaters that everyone has seen within the pages of Juice.

In the kitchen was plenty of beer of all types that was getting drank pretty fast and lots of Red Bull at the ready for those that wanted to go the other direction. Hanging out in what is Dan Levy's office by day was Jeff Ho of Zephyr Surf shop fame with plenty of the party's guests crowding in the room to visit with Jeff.

It was now 9 o'clock and local punk band, Fist of Fury was about to go on, so everyone scaled another flight of stairs to the roof. This was a cool scene to see unfold with a band playing loud on a roof top just a block from the beach and no cops in sight.

During a break in their set Aaron Murray held the raffle for a boat load of stuff that included decks, CD, DVD's, hats and shirts. After the raffle, Dan Levy took the mic to thank everyone for coming out, drinking some beers and supporting Juice magazine as the crowd returned the appreciation with a round of applause. Fist of Fury started up again and played a cover of our favorite AGRESSION song, Intense Energy that he dedicated to the memory of Henry Knowles. They played a full set without the cops even showing up - how hot is that.

The party then went back down a flight of stairs and never let up with a few more beer runs being made. At about 12:30 the party started to wind down as some of the people took the party down the street. We have to say that this was one of the best parties that we had been to in a while.

Just an overall observation on the Juice magazine operation. The people that make Juice happen live where they work and are more in touch with core skating than most. This mag is not a multi million dollar shoe catalog skate magazine like most and they leave the BS on the cutting room floor. Soon they will be celebrating their 10 year anniversary of publishing and bringing the pool and Punk set the kind of magazine that we all appreciate.
